THE MUSICAL CATERING Songs a la Carte

In spring 1997 ZAHI performed a theatre-show in Amsterdam with his own songs, accompanied by a quartet and a trio-choir. After 45 minutes the curtain behind the decor opened up and a complete pianobar appeared. Zahi invited the audience to come on stage, where they sat down in the bar. Meanwhile ZAHI, who was seated behind his piano, asked his guests to compile the rest of the show from the Love Alive menu. A menu which contained nothing less then 69 lovesongs. And so they did. As a result this perticular evening was filled with surprises, laughter, tears, dancing and sing-alongs. But even more, it was the actual birth of a new concept in cabaret; Songs a la Carte, where the audience decides what kind of entertainment will be presented to them. Zahi's formula of musical catering tended to work out well and over the years it got succesfull. More and more bookings came in. In order to give the audience more control over the kind of evening they want to assemble, Zahi made more menu's, each with its own theme. A Rock 'n Roll menu for instance, containing songs such as Return to Sender and All Shook up. Then there is The high tea menu, filled with Jazzy songs. Since 2001 Zahi works as a fulltime professional. As a solist, he arranged to use his voice in every possible way. It can be soulfull, make outbursts, but can also be subtle when needed, accompanied by the following instruments; Zahi's flying piano, the accordion, and his keyboard in combination with a rythmbox controled feet. ZAHI performes with many soulfull voices,outbursts, subtleties, flying piano and accordion-keys and sings and performes the complete repertoir on accordion and/or piano in combination with a rythmbox controled by feet.
